Water is the softest thing, yet it can penetrate mountains and earth.
A homage to the powerful forces of water & rock - the essence series explores the areas where land meets the sea.

Boundless explores a restricted, earthy, almost monochromatic palette, suggestive of rugged terrains, charred wood, smoke and stone.

ABOUT THE WORK

Amica works within three series:  Boundless, Essence and Held,  each showing her signature, isolated and undulating stone-like forms, suggestive of the eternal and recalling the Japanese concept of Ma, meaning interval or space between.

On the surface, her works are simple and tranquil, but on closer inspection, an unexpected passion and energy emerge.  Her creation process is one of spontaneity and freedom. She works with water-based materials, that are immediately responsive, creating their own rhythm.

Brushes are rarely used, Amicas paintings rely mostly on gravity, air, water, heat, imprints and time to create rich fluid patterns, natural textures and colour.
